Founder and Executive Director

Nick Okafor

Nick is the Founder and Executive Director of trubel&co, a tech-justice nonprofit mobilizing the next generation to reclaim data, design, and technology for advocacy, storytelling, and good trouble. Through programs like Mapping Justice, trubel&co equips youth and advocates with the tools to investigate injustice, document community histories, and build civic technologies that drive social and environmental change. At its core, the organization works to bridge the data divide—ensuring that technical education isn’t just about workforce pipelines, but about reimagining power and participation in the digital age.

Nick is a graduate student at Stanford University, jointly pursuing studies at the School of Engineering and the Graduate School of Education, where his research explores liberatory innovation—how we teach and practice justice-centered design and technology. His career has spanned civic tech, strategy consulting, and urban systems, including work as a strategist at Sidewalk Labs (Google's urban innovation arm), a consultant with Boston Consulting Group, and a partner to city agencies advancing equity through spatial data. A National Geographic Explorer and Echoing Green Fellow, Nick holds a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering and Sustainable Development from Washington University in St. Louis.

He is committed to building a future where innovation is a force for equity, repair, and imagination—especially for those who’ve historically been left out of the conversation.
