Danielle Katz
(she/her)
Danielle is a recent graduate from the George Washington University and now holds a BA of Geography and GIS. She is heavily interested in open source software and collective data management, especially in issues of land and food sovereignty. At GW, she worked closely with OpenStreetMap projects to improve data quality, led workshops with the National Council of Geographic Educators, and was an active organizer with Jewish Voice for Peace, where she facilitated anti-Zionist lectures, programming, and protests. Across all of her passions, she finds ways to promote equity in education and is excited to pivot within trubel&co from a Mapping Climate Justice instructional team member to a Geospatial Justice Fellow. She remains excited by the opportunity to investigate individual/community stories in tandem with geospatial data. Cartography specifically excites her as a highly accessible medium that values artistic expression and technical skills equally, challenging the narrative that the arts and sciences must be separate. Beyond her professional and academic interests, she enjoys traveling (or just having a google flights tab up), inventing recipes, and a good sewing project.
